Dwight Leo Black, 79, wonderful husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully Saturday, May 15th of lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years, Mae Lorraine Haass Black, and his children, their spouses and his grandson, Connor. Dwight served our country as a member of the Air Force for 21 years and retired at a very young 38. He was especially proud that two of his grandsons are currently serving in the Navy. Soon after he left the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant, he started another 20 year career with the Education Service Center and retired a second time in 1990. While in the service, he did his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and was stationed at Kelly AFB which is where he met his future bride. Dwight, who worked in Air Force Security Services did two tours of duty at Headquarters Far East Air Force in Japan, served in Darmstadt, Germany and finished his military career at Ft. Ritchie, Maryland. He brought his large family back to Texas roots to start his next career. Dwight was an avid sports enthusiast and a big San Antonio Spurs fan. He reveled in their recent victory over the Dallas Mavericks. He enjoyed playing poker with friends and was a founding member of the 21 year old HFL fantasy football league. He took great joy in owning and managing his always competitive fantasy football team ” the Black Barons. Dwight played the lottery, and supported the state with daily purchases of scratch off tickets. He was very active in his parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Leon Springs, Texas and volunteered many hours at their food bank. He took great pride in taking care of his lovely home and enjoyed long walks with his wife, Mae. Dwight, who was born in Myra, West Virginia on February 4, 1931, is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Everet and Freda Gertrude Black and his elder brother, RayGene Black. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mae, their children Rhonda Joan Black and her husband, David Gan, Dwight David Black and his friend, Esther DeLeon, Michael Ray Black and his wife, Karen, Mark Lyndon Black and his wife, Kim, Karen Gaye Spotts and her husband, Mike; seven wonderful grandchildren ” Dwight Aaron Black, Matthew Adam Black, Amanda Christine Spotts, Rebecca Raye Correll, Benjamin Connor Black, Lyndy Taylor Black and Brandon Michael Spotts. He had a vast array of grand pets and loved each and every one.
