Durwood Strickland was born March 30, 1936 to the late Ralph and Alma Green Strickland of Crawfordville, Florida. He died on April 24, 2015, with his wife, daughters and son-in-law surrounding him. After high school, he worked with the Department of Transportation, and on November 17, 1957, he married his beloved wife, Betty Davis Strickland.

He was drafted into the US Army in 1958 and served two years in Lawton, Oklahoma and White Sands, New Mexico with the Redstone Missile Project. After returning home for one year he was called back into the US Army to serve during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He returned to the FDOT where he worked in the Surveying and Mapping Office. He retired in July 1998, after 44 years of service. After his retirement, he and his wife served in the Orlando Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints until June of 2012.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Davis Strickland; daughters, Kathy Renee Strickland and Elizabeth “Niki” Davis (and husband Greg Oaks); 3 grandchildren, Jared Davis, Stephanie and Nicholas Oaks; sister, Imogene Whaley and a brother, Larry (Joanne) Strickland; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph L and Alma Strickland, a brother Rod Strickland, and two sisters Phyllis Lynn and Lila Strickland.
