Duane Edward Verschoof, age 83, went home to be with his Lord on June 26, 2019. Duane was born August 20, 1935 in Kalamazoo, the son of John and Eva (Collier) Verschoof. He was a lifelong area resident and had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1953-56. Duane was employed in industrial sales for 20 years with Buryl Hill and 13 years with Morrison’s prior to his retirement in 2000. He was a longtime member of Second Reformed Church and a 30-year member of VFW Post #36.
On March 2, 1957, he was united in marriage to Ida (Moerman) Verschoof, who survives. Also surviving are children Wade Verschoof, Dian Verschoof and husband Alan Kraft; grandchildren Katie (Chad) Akers, Christopher (Melissa) Verschoof, Elsye Zupko, John “Duie” Zupko; four great-grandchildren; his sister Evelyn “Evie” VanDyk and several nieces and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John R. Verschoof, Sr.
In accordance with Duane’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Second Reformed Church (2323 Stadium Drive) with Pastor Kevin Hart officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service time and immediately following the service during the reception in the church hall. Burial with full military honors will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Duane’s memory may be directed to Kairos Dwelling or Second Reformed Church.
