Duane E. Hiday, 88, of Fortville passed away on August 3, 2009. He was born on October 23, 1920 to Earl and Anna (Cummins) Hiday, who preceded him in death. Duane (Daner) was a very kind and caring man, who always thought about others first. He was a loving husband for 42 years to Jane (Crouch) Hiday, who preceded him in death on December 7, 1986. He was a 1938 Fortville High School graduate, and attended Ball State. He and his wife were co-owners of Fortville Poultry and Egg since 1954.

He continued to help with the business after his son Bob bought the business in 1987. Duane was an active member of the Fortville United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities. He was an active member of the Fortville Lions Club for over 60 years, where he was a former President. He was also a member of the Fortville American Legion Post 391, and the Fortville F&AM Lodge No. 207.

Duane also served on the Mt. Vernon Community School Board. For many years, he and his wife enjoyed playing golf at the Idlewold Country Club in Pendleton. Daner continued to play golf until a few years ago. Daner was a true sports enthusiast. He loved to share stories of his high school days as a basketball player and winning two sectional championships. He followed all sports: basketball, football, baseball, golf and tennis. Duane is survived by two children, son, Robert (Rebecca) Hiday of Fortville; and daughter, Linda (Ron) Brandes of McCordsville. He was the proud grandparent of six grandchildren, Jeff (Beth) Brandes, Julie (Brian) Tegt, Bill (Shelly) Hiday, Jason (Melissa) Brandes, Steve (Jennifer) Hiday, and Mike (Rachael) Hiday; two great-grandchildren, Kylie Brandes, Avery and Camden Tegt; and two great-grandchildren on the way. He is also survived by four nephews, one niece, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. His brother Richard Hiday and sister Martha (Hiday) Renner preceded him in death.
