William “Bill” Theimer passed away peacefully on the evening of October 15th, nine days before his 91st birthday. He lived a full, varied and vigorous life. World War II Navy veteran, high school teacher, gardener, nurseryman, family counselor, professor, conservationist, he wore many hats. Born in Erick, Oklahoma, he was proud of his Oklahoma roots, having vivid memories of experiencing firsthand the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s. An alumnus of Oklahoma State and CU Boulder, he earned his doctorate from Denver University while working full-time as a high school teacher. He touched many hearts through his volunteer efforts with organizations like the American Red Cross, Audubon, and Trees, Water and People. He lived in many parts of the United States, but eventually found a home here in the Grand Valley where he could work, walk and garden under the western Colorado sun that he loved so much. His generosity, good humor and kind and caring spirit will be missed by his friends and family alike.
