Dr. Wayne Keith Gwaltney, 75, of Tallahassee, met his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 29, 2021. Born in Princeton, Indiana, March 19, 1946, he was the son of Charles Enford and Josephine Gwaltney.
The Salutatorian of his high school class of 1964, he earned a Doctorate of Education at The University of Georgia prior to becoming a Professor and Director of the Reading Clinic at Florida State University.
A member of Indian Springs Baptist Church, he enjoyed playing golf, collecting and selling treasures online, and watching horse races at numerous U.S. tracks. Wayne was well-traveled and visited all 50 states. He drove north of the Arctic Circle and as far south as El Salvador. He also taught a semester in Belize. An avid sports enthusiast, Wayne played basketball and baseball in high school and coached multiple youth sports in Tallahassee, officiated multiple high school contests, including several baseball state championships, and followed the Thomasville High School Boys’ Soccer Program.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn Elyse Gwaltney; son, Keith (Lisa) Gwaltney; brother Charles (Catherine) Gwaltney; sister Vicki Burchell (Mark Bond), five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
