Dr. Edwards died Friday, October 7, 2011 at his home on Lake Belton. Dr. Edwards was born in the Atascosa, Texas, on December 20, 1920, the son of Jefferson Davis (Bodie) Edwards and May Pearl (Briggs) Edwards. He married Ollie Ray Webb September 1, 1943 in San Diego, California.

While serving as a Naval officer in the South Pacific during World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He graduated from medical school in Galveston, in 1950. Dr. Edwards was a family physician in Karnes County for 12 years before moving to Central Texas in 1961. Dr. Edwards retired in 1995 after working at Scott and White, the VA Hospital, King’s Daughters Clinic and partnering with Dr. Rex Kirkley to build a private practice in Belton.

For many years, he was an active member of First Baptist Church in Belton, where he served on the board of deacons. Dr. Edwards was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Ray Webb Edwards, a grandson, Woodrow Caleb Watkins; two brothers Glen and Travis Edwards and one sister Twila May Edwards.

Dr. Edwards is survived by his children: Tom and Daryl Edwards of Morgan’s Point Resort; Marilyn Woodruff of Portland, Oregon; Jim Edwards of Nashville, Tennessee; and Ruth Watkins of Belton. He is also survived by his brother, Truett Edwards of San Antonio, 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
