Thomas James Lyle, DDS, 65 of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away July 30, 2021 after a brief, but aggressive battle with esophageal cancer.
Tom was born to James “Jim” and Sally (Gribben) Lyle on May 25, 1956 in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended the University of Iowa for both his undergraduate and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees, completing his education in 1982. Following graduation he married the love of his life, Jean Morrissey and they made their home in Urbandale, where they raised their two sons, Michael and David. Tom was committed to helping those in need and devoted his professional work to the same office throughout his career. He was eventually joined in practice by his son, Dr. Dave, who will carry on his legacy at East Des Moines Dental.
To those that didn’t know him well, Tom may have appeared to have a rough exterior, however his close friends and family would argue that he was a fierce and loyal friend. There was little in life that he valued more than those relationships. As a husband and father, he was one of the best. He had a passion for traveling, cycling, photography, live music and his dogs. He also loved cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and was known to never turn down a good IPA.
Tom is survived by his father, James “Jim” Lyle; brother, Doug Lyle, his sons, Kevin and Brian; brother, John Lyle; his beloved wife, Jean and two sons, Michael (Meghan Rooney) and David (Katherine Cunningham). He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally and brother, Bob Lyle.
