Dr. Sean Edward O’Rourke, 26, of New York, NY, formerly of Newnan, GA., passed away Monday, August 18, 2014. He was born August 20, 1987 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, to Timothy Dane O’Rourke and Rhonda Mullinax O’Rourke. His grandparents, Edward and Dorothy O’Rourke, of Marietta, GA, preceded him in death. Sean grew up in Newnan, Georgia, where he and his family enjoyed an incredibly abundant life together. He loved playing soccer, golf, video games, had a huge entourage of friends, and a sister who adored him beyond words. He loved his God and his Youth Group at Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

Through his church he enjoyed several missions and enriching experiences. During two summers, he and his mom traveled with others on a mission to Honduras, where he performed medical assistance with a grateful and loving heart. He was a 2005 graduate of East Coweta High School and a proud Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Georgia, in 2009. He entered New York University School of Medicine in 2009. During his medical school years, he enjoyed research and rotations abroad in Italy and Korea. He planned to be a world traveler after having explored several countries in Europe and Asia. He was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the Honor Medical Society. He received his Medical Doctorate on May 21, 2014.

Most recently, he was working the first of three years in his internal medicine residency at New York-Presbyterian, The University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell. Sean was a promising young doctor whose passion for medicine and helping others was unquestionable. Sean will be remembered for his enthusiasm, idealism, his deep concern for others, and his warm and humble smile.

Survivors include parents, Timothy and Rhonda O’Rourke of Newnan; sister, Kaitlyn O’Rourke of Marietta, GA; grandparents, Guy and Irene Mullinax of Clermont, GA; Ruth Mullinax of Clayton, GA; aunts and uncles, Barry and Sandra Wood of Tiger, GA, Randy and Barbara Mullinax of Gainesville, GA, Norman and Kathy Dishman of Kennesaw, GA; He was also survived by many cousins, with whom he was extremely close.
