Dr. Robert Merton Roy Jr., 80, of Jacksonville, IL, died Nov. 10, 2021, at his home.

He was born Feb. 8, 1941, in Detroit, MI, the son of Robert Merton Roy Sr. and Ruth Enola Webb Roy. He married LaVerne Raymond Aug. 22, 1964, in Chicago and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Brian Roy of South Jacksonville and Jonathan (Jody) Roy of Ripon, WI; two granddaughters, August Roy and Elizabeth Roy; and one brother, William Roy of Chicago.

Dr. Roy graduated from Taft High School in Chicago, and then from Northern Illinois University. Subsequently, he graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago. He served his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria before serving a three-year residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago in the Obstetrics Department. Following that, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving as a Major at Irwin Hospital in Fort Riley, KS. Upon his discharge, he worked at Carle Clinic in Champaign. In 1976, he and his family moved to Jacksonville, joining the Jacksonville OB-GYN Associates along with Dr. Simmons and Dr. Hartman, retiring in 2003. He was a certified member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Roy enjoyed fishing and especially enjoyed puttering around his workshop.
