Dr. Richard A. Moore, age 72 of Collinsville, IL, passed away on October 3, 2020 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL. Richard was born January 6, 1948 in La Harpe, Illinois. He graduated from Carthage High School and then went on to attend Drake University where he received his Bachelor’s degree and was an active member of the Theta Chi fraternity.
He later received his Doctorate in optometry from Pacific University. He started his first optometry practice in Oregon before eventually moving back to Carthage to take over his father’s practice. He finished his career as an optometrist with ShopKo in Monmouth, Illinois.
Throughout his career he was very active in both the American Optometric Association and Illinois Optometric Association. He served in community organizations throughout his life, including the Rotary while living in Oregon and also the Carthage Kiwanis. He was also quite active in politics, serving as President of the Carthage School Board, a member of the Hancock County Board, and he also ran for Illinois State Representative. Richard was an avid musician and enjoyed his time in various bands, including his original high school band the “Wildcats” band where he could most often be seen on the bass guitar. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Emory R. and Betty Jane Moore, nee Baldwin.
Surviving are his children, Dr. Shannon (Jeremy) Hindahl of Collinsville, IL; David (Bridget) Moore of St. Louis, MO and Michael Moore of Indiana; brother Dr. James R. (Betsy) Moore of Minnesota and grandson, Asher Hindahl of Collinsville, IL.
