Dr. Peggy Ann Coley was born November 2, 1950 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Eleanor and Clinton Coley. She graduated from Battin High School in 1968. Peggy attended Texas Southern University where she received her bachelors in Special Education and Psychology. During freshman year at a party, Peggy met the love of her life Charles Ford. When Charles saw her from across the room he immediately was mesmerized and asked her to dance. The next day Charles made a surprise visit to her dorm room and the two were inseparable. On July 17, 1976, Peggy and Charles wed in New Jersey.
Shortly after, they moved to Chicago and Peggy began teaching at Raymond Elementary School where she made a great impact. Known for her beauty and her style Peggy worked as a model and later became a modeling instructor at Barbizon college. In the mid 1980’s, Peggy was led to Christ by her spiritual mother Mrs. Brown and immediately became relentless about the things of God. As the years went by she desired to further her spiritual development so she attended Trinity Divinity School receiving a Master’s degree in Urban Religion. Soon after Peggy became an ordained minister at Gary Christian Center. Furthering her education Peggy receiving her Doctorate in Theology from Share-A-Prayer and Word Theological School of Ministry.In the mid 90’s, Peggy was diagnosed with MS, but she continued to keep her faith and declare healing over her body. Peggy would not let anything stop her from living her life and pursing the things of God often saying “For God I live and For God I die.”
Dr. Peggy later went on to launch Watchmen on the Wall Ministries, declaring that her call was to “Cry loud and Spare not.” Through the W.O.W ministry she went on many ministering assignments, teaching, preaching and discipling others. Dr. Peggy authored books such as “Earnestly Contend for the Faith” & “Kwanza-Man made or God ordained” Peggy traveled to Israel, Africa, and various other places of the world on mission trips to spread the gospel and grow in the things of God. In 1998, Peggy and Charles joined Cornerstone Christian Center where she planted, watered, and built beautiful relationships. She loved to worship God in song and also had the opportunity to record her own music with close friend Ken Wright. Peggy was a fierce scrabble player and held continuous competitions with family and friends.
She was beloved by so many and took every opportunity to pour into those around her leading many to Christ therefore having many spiritual sons and daughters. Her famous saying to love ones was “I love you more.” Dr. Peggy never lost faith despite challenges in her body. Her husband Charles, of 44 years, poured his heart and soul into caring for her each and every day, making sure she was as comfortable as possible.
April 30, 2020, Dr. Peggy Ann Ford passed away peacefully in her sleep in their home in Sauk Village IL. She was beloved wife of Charles Ford, Loving mother of Ivy Ford and Jenean Ford-Coleman (Tyrone) and cherished grandmother of Olivia, Julian, Dakota, Chandler, Roman, and Cadence. Dear sister of Denise Dorsey, Michelle Coley, and the late Clinton Coley Jr. and the late Eleanor Hawkins-Coley mother and Clinton Coley father and a host of nieces and nephews. All who knew her loved her and she will truly be missed.
