Dr. Mont M. Warner died peacefully December 16, 2014.  He was born in Fillmore, Utah on October 9, 1919 and was raised in the Mojave desert.  Mont attended school in Kelso, San Bernardino and Las Vegas.  From 1937 to 1940, Mont attended BYU, and served his LDS mission from 1940-1943.

After serving his country, Mont continued his education at Cambridge University, earned his BA and MA at BYU, and received his PHD in geology from University of Iowa in 1962.

In 1947, Mont married Kathryn Sanford, a Boise native.  Their love and commitment to each other continued for 56 years.  After her death in 2003, Mont wrote that it “shut me down for the rest of time”.

Dr. Warner had a distinguished career, working for several major petroleum companies as a geologist in Texas, Louisiana, Kansas, Utah, and Colorado.  He taught geology at the University of Iowa, Arizona State, and Boise State University.  During his time at BSU (1969-1985), Dr. Warner organized the Earth Science Department and was the Geology Department chair.  He continued consulting with oil companies into his 90’s.

Mont’s beloved wife, his parents, and several siblings preceded him in death.

Mont has so many relatives living in other states who felt he was a sage and true man of God.
