Dr. Michael Barnes, 77, of Canon City, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Born in London in 1935 to Frederick and Addie (Richings) Barnes, Michael was raised in England, and graduated from the University of London, School of Medicine. Michael wed Monica C. Taylor on June 11, 1960. Together they emigrated to the United States, where Michael became a Commander in the United States Coast Guard. Throughout his life, he was an avid sailor, woodworker, hunter, skier, and a terrific father. Ultimately settling in Canon City, Michael was an active Rotarian. He also enjoyed photographing the natural beauty of the area. Mr. Barnes is survived by his beloved wife, Monica; children, Mark (Julia) Barnes, Susan Barnes, and Timothy (Jennifer) Barnes; grandchildren, Stephanie, Taylor, Danielle, and Kate; and his dog, Midnight.
