Dr. Leonard “Reds” Cohen, 83, of Alexian Village Retirement Community, Signal Mountain, TN, died Thursday, August 4, 2011 in a local hospital. Dr. Cohen was a member of Temple Judea Synagogue in Doylestown, Pennsylvania and was a retired Superintendent of Public Schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. He was an avid Boy Scout and a troop leader and a loyal Phillies fan. Throughout his life he was a loving father and grandfather, a mentor to those he managed, and he had an undying sense of humor. He served as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor/Trainer as well as Canoeing Instructor/Trainer. Dr. Cohen received his Doctorate in Education (EdD) from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. He was predeceased by his son, Alan, and his sister Nancy Muderick. Survivors include his wife, Louise Cohen; son, Bob (Capi) Cohen, Ooltewah, TN; two grandchildren, Matthew (Christine) Cohen, Newton, NJ; and Rachel Cohen , Ooltewah, TN.
