Dr. Lee Robert “Doc” McGregor DVM, 80, of Freeport, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003 at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center.Born August 5, 1923 in McCook County, South Dakota he was the son of Edwin E. and Myrna (Mabee) McGregor.
He married Dorothy Mae Vogel February 18, 1951 in Monroe, Wisconsin.
He served in the Army of the United States from June 1943 to April 1946.A graduate of Canistota High School, he attended South Dakota State at Brookings, S.D., graduated from Iowa State University, member Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and Ames Iowa College of Veterinary Medicine in 1951.He practiced veterinary medicine in Salem, S.D. until moving to Freeport in 1957 and became a partner in The Freeport Animal Hospital until his retirement in 1991.
He served as Animal Control Administrator for Stephenson County for more than 15 years.
He also served on the District 145 School Board for 7 years.His memberships included, American Veterinary Medical Association, Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, past president of the Northern Illinois Veterinary Medical Association, life member of Excelsior Lodge 97 since 1945, 32 degree Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Valley of the Orient, Tebala Shrine, AMVETS, VFW, YMCA, and St. John United Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Freeport; children, Connie Lee McGregor of Scottsdale, Arizona, Nancy (Kent) Raymond of Charlotte, N.C., Marlene (Lawrence) Eisenberg of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Stephen and Michael Raymond of Charlotte, Alexandra and Gabriella Eisenberg of Austin; step-grandson, Andrew Eisenberg of Clarkston, Michigan; brothers, John (Joy) McGregor of New Effington, South Dakota, and Edd (Carol) McGregor of Salem, South, Dakota; sister, Mary (Arnold) Cook of Clarion, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
His parents preceded him in death.
