Dr. Kim Howard Tan
Dr. Kim Howard Tan, 92, of Greensboro, GA passed away at his residence on April 28, 2018. Dr. Tan was born in Jakarta, Indonesia on March 24, 1926 to Tjeng Lee and Phoa Goat Nio Tan. He graduated from the University of Indonesia earning a PhD in Agronomy and for ten years he taught in Indonesia. In 1957 he married the former Yelli Wijaya from Indonesia. In 1967 he packed up his family and moved to the United States to give his family a better life. For a year he worked at Colorado State before transferring to the University of Georgia. He took pride in working as a professor at The University of Georgia from 1968 to 1995, and in his spare time he wrote books and published 12 scientific books. He loved to read and watch his bulldogs.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Eddy Gunawan, and is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Yelli Tan of Greensboro, GA; son Budi Tan (Mutiara) of Atlanta, GA; brother, Harry Hartawan of Jakarta, Indonesia; grandson, Christian Tan; other relatives and friends.
