Dr. Kenneth D. Benson, 78, of 121 Hurt Street, Danville, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in Danville Regional Medical Center. Born June 15, 1932 in Pretoria, South Africa, he was the son of the late A. J. Benson and the late Martha Roos Benson. Dr. Benson is survived by his wife, Dorothy Arnn Benson of the residence. At the age of nineteen, he worked his way across the Atlantic to America on a Swedish freighter called the Parramatta. He arrived at the port in Baltimore, MD. One of his proudest moments was becoming an American citizen in the late sixties. Dr. Benson received a TH.B Degree from Holmes Bible College and later received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Bible from Southern Wesleyan University. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate’s Degree from Holmes Bible College where he served for twenty-six years as a teacher and president. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Martha Kramer and husband, David of Greenville, SC; a son, Jonathan Benson and wife, Lisa of Sharpsburg, NC; a sister, Bonita Louw and husband, Fred of Pretoria, South Africa; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Edwin Benson.
