Eric Daniel Jakubowski, Ph.D., 61, of Tallahassee, Florida, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 02, 2021, at his residence, while surrounded by loving family. The only son of the late Daniel “Jake” Jakubowski and Pauline Patrick Jakubowski, he was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 29, 1960. After graduating from Parkview High School (Gwinnett County, Georgia) he faithfully served in the US Air Force for four years. Following his service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from the University of Georgia and taught in Moultrie, Georgia.
Following his marriage to Elizabeth he earned a masters and PhD in Instructional Systems from Florida State University and continued to work in K-12 and higher education. He was the first in his family to earn advanced degrees and his parents continually bragged about his accomplishments. His experiences as a mathematics teacher at St. John Paull II (JPII) had a lasting impression on him and helped shaped the man he would be as a law enforcement officer. He worked with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy and retired from LCSO as a full time Deputy in the bailiff’s unit. While being passionate about teaching and law enforcement he also found enjoyment through fishing, shooting, working on his cars, and cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs.
His love of education and strength in living were evident in his involvement with his Native American community, Ekvnv Hvtke, and his birth community, the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe, in Bolton, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth Henderson Jakubowski; daughter, Lauren Jakubowski; family by marriage; and aunts and cousins from his North Carolina community.
