Dr. Edsel Manuel Davis Sr. transcended from time to eternity Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Edsel was born Jan. 2, 1935 to Nelson Abraham and Clevia Avant Davis of Monroeville, AL. He was 84 years of age.
At the age of 9, he heard the call of Christ and united to the Morning Star Baptist Church in Monroeville, AL, later uniting with the Limestone Baptist Church in Monroeville, AL under the leadership of his father, the Rev. Nelson A. Davis. He heard the call of God into ministry and preached his initial sermon at 17 at the Limestone Baptist Church. His final unity with the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL was under the leadership of Dr. Christopher Hamlin.
He leaves to celebrate his memory and legacy his devoted wife, friend and caregiver, Louise Pruitt-Davis, Jackson, AL; two sons, Edsel M. (Juanita) Davis Jr. and Kerry L. Davis, Birmingham, AL; daughter, Icella S. Davis, Birmingham, AL; granddaughters, Keonta C. (Charles) Bonner and Kyndall Irie Davis, of Birmingham, AL; two nieces, Paulette Davis and Faye Cunningham; two brothers-in-law, Fredrick D. (Josephine) Moore of Fairfield, CA, and Tommie L. (Marilyn) Moore of Leroy, AL; three sisters-in-law, Lucinda Roscoe-Carr of Fayetteville, NC, Lular Rodgers of Tempe, AZ, and Hannah Moore of Cincinnati, OH; with many cousins, friends, colleagues, former students and former parishioners that he loved so much.
