Dr. Daniel J. Horgan, Ph D, 84

Wynantskill – Dr. Daniel J. Horgan, Ph D, 84, of Brookside Avenue Wynantskill died Tuesday, May 04, 2010 at his residence after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was the son the late Daniel Francis Horgan and Elizabeth Sullivan Horgan and husband of the late Mary (Liz) Sullivan Horgan, his beloved wife of 49 years. He was born and raised on 15th Street in Troy, moving to Wynantskill in May of 1963 and was a graduate of LaSalle Institute, earned his Bachelor’s degree from Yale, MA from Middlebury College and his PhD from the University of Madrid, Spain.

Dr. Horgan joined the faculty of Siena College in 1948 holding several teaching and administrative positions including Professor of Modern Languages and Vice President of Academic Affairs. He retired in 1991 after 43 years of service at Siena.

He was a member of the University Club of Albany and the Kiwanis Club of Wynantskill. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Kevin (Sandra) Horgan of Severna Park, MD; two daughters, Elizabeth MD (James) Higgins of Slingerlands and Dr. Margaret M. (John) Miller of Lakewood, CO; two sisters-in-law Eileen Horgan and Mrs. Frank J. (Anne) Morgan and 11 grandchildren, Joanna Salas, Raymond Salas, Daniel J. Horgan, Michael Horgan, Andrew Horgan, Christopher Higgins, Michael Higgins, John G. Miller III, Mary Veronica Miller, Aniella Miller, and Rose Elizabeth Miller. He was predeceased by a brother, Vincent P. Horgan.
