Dr. Dana King-Smith, a resident of Headland, died Wednesday afternoon, September 10, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. She was 36.

Dr. King-Smith was a native of McKenzie, AL, and was a 1996 graduate of McKenzie High School. She received an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from Lurleen B. Wallace in Andalusia and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama. Dr. King-Smith was accepted to Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she received her Doctorate in Optometry.

Dr. King-Smith attended Wiregrass Church in Dothan, and was a member of Community of Christ Church in McKenzie. She formerly lived in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Ft. Lauderdale before moving to Headland in 2009. Dr. King-Smith was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Bennett King.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Tony E. Smith, two daughters, Raeleigh Smith and Kelsey Smith, and her fur babies, Ali and Bear, all of Headland; her parents, Glenn D. King and Ann W. King, McKenzie; a sister, Tanner King, Lamoni, IA; a brother, Kevin King (Diedra), and niece, Anna King, Hendersonville, NC; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Billy Gene and Elaine Smith, Dothan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sonya Knowles (Ed), Julia LeFebvre (Neal), Tami McNeil (Terry), Kelli Edmonson (Michael), and Rory Nichols (Cindy); several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
