Dr. Aaron Givens, Jr. passed away on January 27, 2021 in Orange Park, FL. He was born on January 17, 1935 in St. Louis, MO, to the late Aaron Givens and Lillie Carey.
Aaron retired from the United States Army after achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served during the Vietnam Conflict (66-67 USARV) (70-71 MACV). He was awarded the distinguished Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with “V” device for acts of valor in combat. Although he was retired, he always stayed current with Army initiatives. Aaron held a Doctor of Philosophy degree from North Carolina State University, was a Licensed Psychologist, a Certified Mental Health Counselor, and a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Aaron was the number one supporter of his wife, Diane, as well as a role model to and number one supporter of his son, Corey. He was a mentor and adviser to his nieces and nephews, as well as many underprivileged children. Dr. Givens was described as a servant’s leader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mable Dean Adams, and sisters, Whitley Illcar and Juanita Givens.
Aaron is survived by his wife, Diane Givens; son, Corey Givens; stepdaughter, Nicole Walker; grandson, Tyrus Givens; step-granddaughters, Jazmin and Jade Walker; brother, Ernest Givens; sisters, Gwennette Johnson and Gwen Wiltz; nephews, Allan Davis, Reginald Davis, Anthony Davis, William Johnson, Treavor Shelton, Lawrence Shelton, Dana Shelton, Ernest Carter, Brian Givens, Winston Edwards and Rhon Taylor; nieces, Regina Smith, Crystal Johnson, DeLois Christy and Donna Edward, and many friends.
