Doyle Shane Gentry, 50, formerly of Newnan, GA died July 27, 2018. Born in Shawnee, OK, April 24, 1968, he was the son of Darla Spoon Gouker and the late James (Jim) Gentry. Doyle and his brothers, James and Tommy, were raised in Meeker, OK. Doyle learned from a young age a strong work ethic by working hard on the family’s dairy farm.
Doyle was active in FFA and graduated from Meeker High School in 1986. Doyle completed vocational training at Gordon Cooper in Shawnee, OK. After graduation, Doyle went to work as a truck driver for his father who owned a trucking company in Salina, KS. While working in Salina, he met the love of his life, Lorie Ann Miller, and married on June 23, 1990. Doyle attended Kansas State University for 2 years in the aviation program with his dream being to become a professional pilot. However, after the birth of his first daughter, Nikki, in 1992, Doyle gave up college to get a full-time job.
Doyle had a remarkable career in the food distribution industry where he started in 1993 with SYGMA Oklahoma as a truck driver and ended as Director of Distribution & Supply Chain for IPC (Subway). He was also employed with Martin-Bower and Merchants Food Service. Doyle was well-respected by all that worked with him over the past 25 years for his loyalty, integrity, and leadership style of leading by example. No matter where Doyle worked, his work friends became a part of his family. Doyle loved to fly as a private pilot, was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed camping with friends, attending races and skiing with his daughters. However, his greatest love was for his wife, Lorie and his daughters, Nikki and Lindsey. Nothing in the world gave Doyle more joy than his family. He loved to travel with them on vacations and cruises.
Doyle will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Surviving is his wife of 28 years, Lorie Ann (Miller) Gentry; two daughters, Nikki (Gentry) Dutton and son-in-law Scott of Columbus, GA and Lindsey Gentry of Ridgeland, MS; his mother Darla Gouker and step-father, Kenny Gouker of Seminole, OK; three brothers, James Gentry and Tommy Gentry, both of Delaware, AR and Ben Gentry of Salina, KS; several nieces and nephews; and many relatives too many to list. He is preceded in death by his father, James (Jim) Gentry; grandparents Elvis & Gladys Spoon and Ben & Mary Gentry; and mother-in-law Roseann Miller.
