Dowen “Slim” Gumm 81, of Sandoval passed away on March 31, 2012 at the VA Nursing Home in Marion. He was born on May 20, 1930 in Dunkirk, Ohio the son of Dessman Herman Gumm and Mercy Gladys (Yoak) Gumm. He married Sheila Hardin on September 23, 1961 in Mattoon and she survives in Sandoval. He is also survived by a daughter: Malinda Hunt and husband Mike of Sandoval; three granddaughters: Carolyn Reynolds, Scarlett Reynolds and Shania Reynolds all of Sandoval; a great-granddaughter: Emily Randolph of Sandoval; a sister: Dorcie Pigg and husband Harold of DuQuoin; two brothers: Delmar Gumm and wife Isabelle of Nashville and Destal Gumm and wife Diane of Mountain Home, AR; a sister-in-law: Susie Gumm of Junction City, KS; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Delena Hill, who passed in 1957 and a brother: Denzel R. Gumm, who passed in 2011.Slim was a U.S. Veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing. Most of all he loved spending time with his granddaughters and great-granddaughter.
