Dovie Lawrence, 93, a resident of New Smyrna Beach for 43 years, passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on August 11th, 2013 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Van Lear, Kentucky in 1920, the oldest daughter of Roy and Emma Brown. She moved to Dayton, Ohio after WWII, where she and her husband, Estis Lawrence made their home, until moving to New Smyrna Beach, Florida in 1968. She was active in the Council on Aging programs at the Brannon Center and later, the Meals on Wheels Program.

She is survived by her son, Ron Lawrence (Patricia), Plano, TX, and her daughter, Vicki (Bob) Gross, Edgewater. She is also survived by a sister, Lois Ward, Springboro, OH, and a brother, Jackson Brown, of Van Lear, KY. She has seven grandchildren including: Kurt (Amy) Lawrence, and Sarah (Adrian) Quintanilla of Texas, Ashlee Lawrence, Jimmy Gross, Jason, Daniel and Summer Booth, Erin, TN, and three great grandsons, Sammy Quintanilla, Branson Nelson, and Brenton Booth. She also has two step-grandchildren, Bobby and Debbie Gross. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

She captured the hearts of her family and friends with personality and character. Her family wishes to thank the Volusia County Council on Aging who helped her maintain her independence in her home for many years, and Vitas Innovative Healthcare, who supported her and the family at the end of life.
