Second Class Petty Officer Douglas Wayne Mossberg passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center in Temple, Texas on November 16, 2021. Doug was a decorated veteran who served aboard the USS Piedmont and spent another four years in the reserves. He was a very loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

Doug was born on November 24, 1945, in Pine River, Minnesota. Graduating from Ely Junior College in 1965, he went on to attend Bemidji State University, completing coursework to be an elementary teacher prior to enlisting in the Navy. During his time in Ely, Minnesota, he met and fell in love with Judith Ann Danielson, whom he soon married on April 15, 1969. He worked as a welder at Arrow Tank in Cambridge, Minnesota and then moved to Santa Rosa, California where he worked as a stainless steel fabricator prior to retirement, eventually settling in Temple, Texas.

Doug loved his Saviour, his family, and his country. Doug helped establish Calvary Chapel Lake Norman in Huntersville, NC. He touched the lives of many people, known for ministering to incarcerated men, rescuing dogs from the local shelter, and spending time with his family near and far. Doug was a Minnesota Vikings fan, an avid card player, a lover of a good deal and all things sweet. Doug left an impact on many lives, always initiating and maintaining communication with his many lifelong friends. He will forever be missed.

Doug was preceded by brothers, Vernon, Norman, and Paul; and parents Bernhard “John” and Phyllis Mossberg. He is survived by wife, Judy; children, Bruce Mossberg, Jeffrey Mossberg, Cherie Shedore, and Daniel Mossberg; siblings: Kathy (Mike) Wyatt; Nancy Loudon; John (Debbie) Mossberg; Suzanne (Ron) Herman; Jeff Mossberg; Penny (Greg) Worthington; David Mossberg; grandchildren: Shad, Sierra, Isaac, Zachary, Savanah, Madison, Sophia, Spencer, Serena; great-grandchildren: Jacob and Wyatt.
