Douglas W. Kearney 87 of Milford, CT, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. He was a devoted father and supportive friend.  Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was one of 7 born to Rhoanna and William H. Kearney, Sr. There he met and married Juanita Woolfolk (deceased) in 1950, and together they raised a dedicated daughter, Dr. Sheila M. Kearney (Milford), who was to them, a constant source of pride and joy.  He also leaves behind one nephew Michael Kearney, two nieces Marsha (Fabio) Madeline Kearney, several great nieces, Stephanie and Jacqueline (Fabio), Quincy (Kearney), great nephews William (Fabio), Anthony (Kearney), great Godsons, brothers Darryl (US Army), Nile (US Navy), and Tyler Baisden and cherished friends Patricia and Tim Mauesby, Cece Bai, and many, many others.

He was a decorated war hero who earned the Bronze Star for his meritorious valor in combat while serving with the 17th Armored Infantry Battalion (Army’s first integrated unit) that was deployed to Central Europe and participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Returning from World War II, he worked as a longshoreman.

Douglas was a man of great honor, humor, and boundless optimism. He was best known for his giving spirit and his unwavering commitment to his family and friends, as manifested by numerous acts of kindness and charity.

He will be sorely missed, but warmly remembered by all whose lives he touched and by family and friends who will continue to find comfort in his eternal loving embrace.
