Those left to honor Doug’s memory are his wife, Margaret of Killduff; son, David (Lynda) Barton of Atlanta, GA; his 2 daughters, Allyson (Randy) Springer of Newton and Rachel (Joseph) Lane of Newton; his step-daughter, Sarah (John) Kroes of Pella; 9 grandchildren, Isaiah, Nicholas, Mariah, Drew, Reed, Zion, Jackson, Israel, and Benjamin; his brother, Ed (Amy) Barton of Newton; and his 2 nephews, Chad Barton and Jason Barton, both of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl W. and Alyce (Pyle) Barton and a son, Doug Jr. in infancy.
He graduated from Newton High School in 1961 and had a year of technical training at Syracuse University.
Doug joined the Air Force after high school and retired in 1981 as a Tech Sergeant. During his time in the military he served in Vietnam and was stationed at several bases. While in the military he also taught photography classes and later worked in photo journalism and had a life long love of photography. Doug most recently worked in maintenance for the Newton Correctional Facility, retiring in 2005.
