Douglas (Rocky) Kingbird, Jr., “Niigaanibinesi” which means Leading Thunderbird, of the eagle clan, age 36, of Redby, Minnesota began his spiritual journey on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota with his family by his side.  He was born on September 12, 1983 in Bemidji, MN, the son of Douglas Kingbird, Sr. and Ramona Smith.

Rocky was a brave hearted individual who loved all his children and family deeply.  Enjoyed art, music, fishing, and going to pow-wows, and ceremonies, spending time with his children, and family.  Rocky will be deeply missed by all of whom knew him.

The family that welcomes Niigaanibinesi are Abinoojiinyensag, Jayce, Hailey and son Rocky Kingbird, paternal grandparents, Ona (Raincloud) Kingbird and Issac Kingbird, Sr.; his dear sister, Latasha Rose Kingbird; and his maternal grandfather, Alvin C. Smith.

He is survived by parents, Ramona Smith and Douglas (Naomi) Kingbird Sr., brothers, Royal Kingbird, Michael Beaulieu, Julius Johnson, Benjamin Huisinga, Preston Graves, Jr., Reginald Graves, Sr. and Wesley Nichols; sisters, Rosalind, Sharae Kingbird and Calista Nichols; his children, Sincere, Cameron, Amya, Jaymison, Raquel, Rocky ‘Babykins’ and Aubrey Tahawah-Kingbird; grandson, Trey Kingbird; uncles, Joe (Cheryl), Jeff (Cheryl), Randy (Tara) and Gordeaux LaFleur; aunts, Bonnie, Brenda (Larry), Melodie, Debra, Valerie (Ernie Dunn) and Kimberly Smith; maternal grandmother, Eleanor Smith; significant other, Danielle Downwind; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
