Douglas MacArthur (Uncle) Lewis, 75, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, Apr. 13, 2017 at 1:50 am at the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart.

He was born Mar. 29, 1942 in Elkhart to the late George and Joella (Anderson) Lewis.

Surviving is his daughter, Ajee Aja Aramenta Lewis of Elkhart; grandson Jamias D. Lewis, at home; sisters Rosie L. “Strueby” Garcia, Anna “Gooch” Phillips, Lara “Keetie” Blackshare, Dollie Mae “Beesie” Lewis, Mary Jo “Skeeter” Dye, Cornelia “Brighty” Ware, Barbara “Nickanee” Parks and Valerie “Varee” Patrick; and brothers Robert “Bo”, Elbert “Pat”, George “Scrap”, Nane and Pent Lewis; and several nephews and nieces, including Stefan Dixon and Delbert Dye. Additionally, his significant other, Harlem Coggain of Elkhart.

Uncle retired from Bristol Lamination after working there over 15 years. He had a huge heart and always enjoyed tithing and contributing to various community churches and organizations. He loved to sew, make clothing and cook; and was known for his chicken and greens. Loving and endearing, Uncle prided himself on being accepting and helpful to everyone he came to know, especially within his own family. He also busied himself with maintaining the family’s history, and making sure all of the elders’ graves had fresh flowers each memorial day.  He was the rock upon which the family stood, and his mentoring and loving presence will be greatly missed.
