On Tuesday, January 23, 2018, the Lord called and Douglas James Whitted answered. Douglas was born July 31, 1954 to Lonnie Whitted and the late Julia Brunson. Doug attended Catholic School and graduated from McKinley Tech Senior High School in Washington, DC. He also attended Livingstone University. After coming home from college he worked many different jobs until he started working at the Vista Hotel and then Willard Intercontinental Hotel, as banquet manager until he retired in 2004.
On July 21, 1979, he warned the love of his life LaVerne Lee, he would call her his battle axe. From this union four sons were born (Douglas, Jr., Morgan, Lonnie and Jermaine). In 1991, his Daughter Cynothia Johnson and he adopted Lakeshia Johnson. There was a house full, but he said just add some more water to the pot.
Doug loved football, he played in high school as well as in college. He also was a die-hard Redskins and Raider fan. Every Redskins home game you would find him on the gravel parking lot of his Church parking cars. He also loved to sit and play solitaire for hours.
Doug was a God-fearing man. In 1994, He and his family joined Jericho Baptist Church. He worked in the Upper Room and Security Ministries until 2004 when he became a deacon. After church on Sunday, if you needed a ride we gave you a ride. Even when he became sick and attended dialysis, he would give people a ride, until he could no longer drive.
He leaves to cherish his memories, wife LaVerne Whitted, his father, Lonnie Whitted, sons Morgan and Jermaine, daughter-in-law Daniece, daughters Cynothia Johnson and Lakeshia Hill, sisters Ann Clayton, Gladys Washington, and Lenora (Ira) Bell, grandsons Delonte, Dominque, Joshua, Jeremiah, Elize, JLonnie, and Princeton, granddaughter Davonna and his childhood friend Vernon Whittington. And a host of family and friends.
