Douglas J. “Mr. State Wide” Bucher Sr., 70, of Elkhart, died at 4:49 a.m. Saturday (May 17, 2008) in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 1, 1938, in Elkhart to J.B. and Blanche (Hartman) Bucher. He married Jeanine C. Spencer on March 27, 1956.
She survives along with two sons, Doug J. Bucher and Chris J. (Stephanie) Bucher, both of Elkhart; two daughters, Deb Bucher of Goshen and Charmaine (Steve) McDowell of Demott, Ind.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Sally Jo (Roger) Cook of Goshen.
Mr. Bucher retired in 2003 after working more than 30 years as a supervisor at State Wide Aluminum. He earned the name Mr. State Wide from his ability to perform almost every job in the company. He had worked for Riblet Products, Manhattan, Kan.
He was a 1956 graduate of Elkhart High School, a veteran of the Indiana National Guard and an active longtime member of Zion Missionary Church. He had been a member of the Elkhart Jaycees. Mr. Bucher enjoyed traveling and cooking for his family and friends.
