Douglas DeLisle Swift, age 90, died on September 12, 2016. He was born August 25, 1926, in Ann Arbor MI, the son of Inez (Selesky) Swift and Byron W. Swift. He graduated from the University of Michigan, the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and the University of New Mexico. He holds an honorary degree from Albuquerque TVI-now CNM. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1969, from TVI in 1987, and worked as a technical communicator until 2009. He was active in professional organizations during his three careers and in civic organizations while living in Albuquerque since 1966. Among his recognitions, Doug and his wife, Jane were honored with the Arts Alliance Bravos Award as outstanding volunteers; with the Wheels Museum President’s award; and were inducted into the Silver Horizon’s Senior Hall of Fame. Doug considered his most meaningful accolade was from his children who established the Sandia Six Scholarship in honor of their parents, stating, “If more children had parents like you, the world would be a better place. We love you.”

Doug was preceded in death by his son, Michael and his sister, Elizabeth Groves. He is survived by his wife, Jane Neuenschwander-whom he married in 1951; children, Sharon Leslie of Durham, NC, Susan and Rob Ertmer of Greeley, CO, David and Nichol Swift of San Diego, Barbara Swift and Clyde Burke of Garner, NC, and Melanie and Grant Swezy of Midland TX; as well as five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
