Douglas D. Trotter, 70, of Newton died on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Doug, the son of David Samuel and Clarice Millie (McWhirter) Trotter, was born on July 27, 1951 in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1969. That same year he was united in marriage with Anita Nelson in Newton. Doug worked at Maple Chevrolet before working at the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement, he and Anita owned the D&T Tap and D&T Storage in Reasnor. Doug was a member of the UAW Local 997 and ABATE. He enjoyed working on cars and had owned an enduro race car. Doug liked working with his hands, whether it be concrete work, cutting firewood, working with metal, or tinkering in his garage. He also loved camping and fishing; especially family fishing trips to Trotter’s Resort in Minnesota.
Doug is survived by his children, Rob Trotter, Lisa Kruse, and Tracy Chamberlain, all of Newton; grandchildren, Vanessa Trotter of Newton, Chelsea (Trent) Salsman of New Mexico, Maddison Kruse of Arizona, Michael Kruse of Arizona, Allison Chamberlain of Newton, and Gunnar (Chai) Bucklin of Newton; great-grandchildren, Layne, Naliapon, and baby boy Salsman on the way; his siblings, Saundra (Rich) Funk of Spirit Lake and Rick Trotter of Kellogg; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anita on October 10, 2021; and his brother, David Michael “Mike” Trotter.
