Obituary of Douglas D. Larsen
LARSEN, Douglas D. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at his home. He was 79 years old. Doug was born in Alpena, MI on October 9, 1939 to the late Roy and Luella (Booth) Larsen. He married Nancy J. Markey on April 23, 1960 in Covington, KY; she preceded him in death on May 25, 2013.
Doug graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson after attending high school in Las Vegas, NV. As a young father Doug enjoyed watching his boys play sports and spending time at the family cottage on Lake Leelanau. Later in life Doug’s true passion became his animals, which included numerous dogs and two African Grey parrots. Doug and Nancy were both active in the Saginaw Valley Kennel Club, and the Bouvier des Flanders Club of Southeastern, MI. Doug truly enjoyed showing his dogs and training them for confirmation – earning many awards, including “Best in Breed” championships. Right up until the death of Nancy they both avidly attended local and regional dog shows. Doug retired from General Motors after 30 years of employment. During his retirement he enjoyed working part-time at Covenant HealthCare for the next 20 years.
Doug is survived by his three sons and five grandchildren: Douglas Jr, his wife Laurie, and their daughter Anna; Steven and his sons, Kyle and Mitchell, and daughter, Lily; Matthew, his wife Laurie, and his daughter, Arielle; sister, Marilyn Booth Larsen (Ferguson).
Doug’s sons would like to thank everyone that helped make their father’s life special in recent years, especially Marsha, Jim, Ed, and so many others. “We will always appreciate the friendship and kindness that you demonstrated towards our dad”.
