Douglas “Bink” Ayrer, age 72, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina formerly of Burlington, New Jersey, passed away on May 20th, 2019, at his home in Myrtle Beach surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis Joseph Ayrer and Carol Lucarine.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Loretta (Nash) Ayrer, daughter Patricia L. Bailey and son-in-law Marquise Bailey of Myrtle Beach SC, son Francis Ayrer, of Burlington, NJ, son Douglas B. Ayrer, Jr. and daughter-in-law Monica (Downs) Ayrer of Burlington, NJ, his grandchildren Devan Williams, Caitlin Williams, Skye Bailey, Evan Ayrer, Liam Ayrer, 7 great-grandchildren, and his furry best friend Lexi. Doug graduated from Burlington Senior High School in 1965 and graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Business Finance and Accounting. Doug worked nearly thirty years within state and local government finance, including Burlington City, Pemberton Twp, Hainesport, Lacey Twp, Inverness FL as well as many other municipalities.
During this time he served as an adjunct professor at Rutgers University. Following his retirement he continued his passion for working in the finance field taking a job at SOS, Health Care, Inc. a non-profit organization providing assistance and care for individuals with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. Doug also served on the HOA Board for the Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club. He loved many things in life, most importantly his family, and friends. He spent many hours donating his time to assist them with tax related help whenever possible. He had a love of buying and selling cars both classic and sometimes not so classic, which grew from a hobby to a small business both in Burlington and Myrtle Beach. He was a huge fan of Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies and the Eagles.
Doug was an avid tennis fan and player spending as much time on the court as possible, building lifelong friendships along the way. He played in many state and regional tournaments ultimately winning the 2014 South Carolina State Championship for 55 and over mixed doubles. He was a member of many social clubs both in Burlington and Myrtle Beach including the Elks, Moose, and the Roma Club. Anyone who knew him, loved and admired him. He was notoriously known for cracking jokes and pulling off pranks of all sorts, a friendly tease was a pure sign of affection. He will be dearly missed by all.
