WASHBURN, Douglas S. “Doug” of Saginaw Township, Michigan passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 at home, surrounded by family. He was 57 years old. Douglas Washburn was born on January 11, 1956 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Carman Anderson and Helen Louise (Schirmer) Washburn. He married Libby Smith on August 10, 1985; she survives him. Doug graduated from Western Michigan University and Cooley Law School, obtaining his Juris Doctorate. He then became an attorney and partner at the law firm, Jungerheld, Hahn & Washburn. Doug was a current or past member of the Saginaw Country Club, Saginaw Club, and Otsego Ski Club. He served as the Social Chair and Vice President of the Saginaw Country Club. He was a member of the Michigan State Bar and Saginaw Country Bar Associations. He was also a member of the Michigan Defense Research Institute and served as a State Grievance Officer. He also served as a member of the St. Mary’s Foundation. Doug was an avid skier, golfer, and boater. He spent many happy summers at his residence on Walloon Lake, hosting his famous cocktail cruises. He is remembered by family friends for his story-telling, sense of humor, and miraculous wit and timing. Surviving are his loving wife of 27 years, Libby (Smith) Washburn; three beautiful daughters, Kailey Washburn, Kristen Washburn, and Annie Washburn; two sisters and three brothers, Judy (James) Davis, Denver CO, Janet (Stephen) Swanson, Minturn CO, Carman Arthur (Patricia) Washburn, Saginaw, Stuart (Annie) Washburn, Boston MA, and Robert (Pamela) Washburn, Petoskey; many nieces, nephews, and friends; and dog, Louie.
