Dortha Louise Buente

1920 – 2007

Dortha Louise Bowles Buente, age 86, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Destin Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Destin, FL. She was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Ohio County, Kentucky to Exie Ellen Clark Bowles and June Bowles.

Quite the traveler and adventurer, Dottie lived in Indiana; Kentucky; Miami, Fla.; New Orleans, La., and moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., to retire in 1990. She lived most of her life in Evansville, Indiana, where she was Clerk of The Support Office and an avid Republican. She loved horses and was always proud of her “stable,” including Junior Kentucky Derby winner, Sweet Dottie.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Exie Ellen Moore, and her stepfather of 55 years, Marvin Franklin Moore, both of Evansville; father, June Bowles, of Central City, Ky.; husband, Roy Edward Harris of Philpot, Ky.; brother, Marvin Franklin Moore, Jr., of Evansville; sister, Leota (Lee) Carolyn Nalley of Central City; granddaughter, Luanne Berg of Evansville and a multitude of relatives and friends. She was the last family survivor of her generation and a well-respected matriarch.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Angela Harris Parkhurst of Fort Walton Beach and three grandsons: Jason Harris Parkhurst and Cameron White Parkhurst of Atlanta, Ga., and Clark Mitchell Parkhurst, of Hollywood, Calif. She also is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lee Fakes Hurt of Evansville, and grandchildren, Ellen Mayse and her husband, Jeff, of Evansville; Richard Fakes of Salem, Wis., and his wife, Karen; Dawn Elizabeth Cox and her husband, Larry, of Brazil, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren and a lively great-great grandson. She also is survived by her “3rd daughter” and most special niece, Jan Nalley Cannady and her husband, Roy, of Fort Walton Beach; and nephew, Joe Carroll Nalley and wife, Debbie, of Avon, Conn.

Our precious Mother, Mudge, Gran, Aunt Dot, Aunt Dottie, Dotty, Dottie has thankfully left the pain and confusion of this world and is enjoying her heavenly home where she will be with her God and can fish to her heart’s content, root for her favorite racehorses, laugh with her mother and sister, dance all night long, read romance novels and work crossword puzzles to her heart’s content. She will be missed by her loving family and friends and will be remembered for her incredible spirit of survival, her infectious laugh and sense of humor, her dedication to her work and family, but, most of all, for being a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
