DORSEY R. “DICK” BAUMGARDNER, age 87 departed this world to meet his Lord and Savior on June 28, 2018, and joined the circle of his family and friends for eternity. Mr. Baumgardner had made his home in Atwater, OH with his daughter, and son-in-law, Sharon and Mark Boyce. Mr. Baumgardner was married for 64 years to Mildred J. (Henline) Baumgardner in the Liberty Addition community of Clarksburg,WV, who preceded him in death in 2016. He was born on April 2, 1931 at the home of his maternal grandparents, Cecil W. and Venia A. Cunningham of Little Rock Camp near Wallace, WV. Mr. Baumgardner was the son of the late Raymond P. and Edna Merle (Cunningham) Baumgardner.
Mr. Baumgardner is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Mark) Boyce of Atwater, OH and Doris Dean of Clarksburg; three grand-daughters, Carolyn Boyce, Atwater, OH, Shannon Michelle (Jimmy) Gibbner, Kent, OH, and Rachel (Keith) Rice of Philadelphia, PA; two great-grand-daughters, Mallory (Joey) Bruey of Vilsek, Germany, and Emilly Weaver of Kent, OH; and one great-grandson Ezekiel (Zeke) Rice. Also surviving are his sister, Betty Merle (Paul) Walker, Jane Lew, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Baumgardner was a long-time member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Adamston, where he taught the Men’s Sunday school class. He was a lifetime scholar of the Bible and spent many years researching and reading about the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Mr. Baumgardner was a 1949 graduate of Victory High School. In his youth, he was in Harrison County 4-H and also a Boy Scout. Dorsey was a professional chef, receiving training at the former Stonewall Jackson Hotel in Clarksburg.
