Dorothy Winnifred Foley passed away peacefully at home, after a long illness, November 19, 2017 with friends and family by her side.
Winnie married Harry Foley on February 14, 1949 in Woodriver, Illinois. During their marriage Winnie and Harry worked on the rail for the Pennsylvania Railroad for a number of years. Harry and Winnie eventually divorced.
Winnie met and married Robert E. Causey her good friend in Illinois and the two of them moved to Colorado. In Colorado they were able to share many great mountain adventures and the beautiful mountain scenery together.
Winnie was a bright ambitious woman who loved to learn and because of her drive she earned many academic accolades. She earned a Bachelor of Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, two Masters Degrees, one in Education and one in Library Science from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. She also earned an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities from McKendree University.
Winnie loved and lived her life the way she wanted with a little stubbornness and gentle grace. She had a very sharp and witty sense of humor and was extremely frugal in her personal life and yet very generous with her time, talents and money.
Winnie’s frugal nature is shown by the fact that she rode her Yamaha motorcycle in her fifties because it was economical and even after she had crashed and damage her shoulder.
Winnie will be missed by all who were close to her.
