Dorothy Stephanie (Holland) Fortin, 92, of Nokomis, Florida, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at home in Mount Airy, Maryland.
Born on December 24, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Stephen T. and Marie (Rupple) Holland. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, William “Bill” John Fortin, Jr. in January 2016.
Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of the Mercy Medical School of Nursing and worked for a time as a registered nurse at Mercy Medical Center and later became a geriatric nurse in local nursing facilities retiring in 1983. In retirement, she and her husband Bill moved to the gulf coast Nokomis, Florida. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, and baking. She loved plants and gardening and was an avid reader.
Surviving her are children, William J. Fortin III and wife, Judy, of Westminster, Christine Schmitt of New Windsor, Mark Fortin and wife, Terry, of Mt. Airy and Elizabeth Malane of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, William J. Fortin IV, Rogina Curry and husband James, Carrie Torres and husband Ricardo, Sandy Reiner and husband Michael, Stacey Weeks and husband Robert, Charlene Chabino and husband Curtis, Charles Schmitt III, Stephanie Bennett and husband Dwayne, Sarah Floyd and husband Sean, Daniel Fortin, and Logan and Cassie Malane; great-grandchildren, Julian, David, Michael, Steven, Samson, Sydney, Nate, Alyssa and just this week, Gunner Stanley Holland Floyd. She was also predeceased by a son, Steven Fortin, and sons-in-law, Charles Schmitt, Jr and Mark Malane.
