Dorothy Springer of Marshville, WV departed this world on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 with family by her side. She was born September 10, 1928 in Clarksburg, WV. Dorothy was a 1946 graduate of Victory High School and loving wife to the late Carl E. Springer Sr.

Summarizing Dorothy‘s life by interests or occupations is a task very few would find easy because she was so many things to so many people. It was during her early years that she worked as a soda jerk and served up extra scoops of ice cream to a young man who would eventually return the favor by asking her hand in marriage. That young couple eventually decided to trade in city life for a piece of land in the country where they taught themselves the ins and outs of farm living.

Dorothy and her husband Carl worked side-by-side for a number of years as owners of D’May’s Grocery and a mobile home park. During that time, Dorothy also served as a Courtroom Stenographer, Harrison County Magistrate, Salem City Judge, and proudly received her Laymanship certificate from West Virginia Wesleyan College. She may say that her greatest achievement in life, however, was raising her family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Carl Edward Springer Sr.; her parents, Joseph and Delania M. Cash, and four siblings, Clarence Cash, Joseph Cash, Clara Cash Robinson, and Charles Cash.

She is survived by her six children: Dorrinda Springer Flanigan and her late husband James W., Carl Edward Springer II and wife Sandra, Harold Michael Springer and wife Nancy, Cynthia Springer Taylor and husband Amos Sr., Diana Springer Neely and husband Perry, and Christina Springer Lincoln and husband Michael; 12 grandchildren, Eddie Springer III, Chuck Springer, James W. Flanigan Jr. and wife Melissa, R. Michael Flanigan and wife Christina, Joseph Flanigan and wife Ashley, Brandi Butcher and husband Larry, Amos Andrew Taylor II, Johnathan Taylor, Jeremy Neely and wife Krista, Rochelle Chalmers and husband Cory, Nathaniel Corey Springer, and Victoria Lincoln; and 15 great grandchildren, Mikayla, Austin, and Kyler Springer; Isabella, Sophia, and Liam Flanigan; Jared and Erin Flanigan; Aubrey, Nolan, and Miram Flanigan; Haley and Clover Butcher; Parker Neely; and Elliana Chalmers.

Those who knew Dorothy best would tell you she was never one to back down from a challenge and approached everything in life with vigor and enthusiasm. She was a lifelong dreamer, and always imagined the best possible life for her family. Dorothy remained steady in her faith throughout her entire life and instilled those values into her children. She may have been best known for her passion for home improvement projects. She simply had a desire to make everything around her more beautiful. Some of her favorite past times were spending time with family, playing piano, and cooking Sunday family dinners. No one will ever quite live up to her infamous waffles or creamy white rice recipe.

Dorothy will be greatly missed and remembered always as a loving wife, a supportive mother, a doting grandmother and great-grandmother, and a loyal friend. The family would like to express gratitude for everyone who sympathized and extended kindness throughout this difficult process.
