The family moved to Cottondale in 1920 and there she lived for most of her life. She graduated from Cottondale High at the age of 15 and went to Bob Jones College and Florida State College for Women, where she received a License of Instruction and began teaching at Cottondale at the age of 17. She taught for a total of 58 years… all in Jackson County except for 3 years in Bay County. She started out in the elementary grades, and then taught junior high and senior high English for several years. Many of her teaching years were in the library. Most students remember her for the many plays/programs she wrote and directed throughout the years at Cottondale High School.
