Dorothy R. Riley, 96, of Metamora, IL, formerly of Roanoke, IL passed away on Thursday morning, December 21, 2017, at Snyder Village Health Center. She was born on March 12, 1921 in Heyworth, IL, to Emile “Doc” and Eva (LaBarre) Rutledge. She married Roy E. Riley on June 29, 1947 in Heyworth, IL. He passed away on September 23, 1994.

Survivors include four children, Tom (Chalong) Riley of Frisco, TX, Chuck Riley of Rand, CO, Carolyn (Tom) Schulz of Wauwatosa, WI, and John (Carolyn) Riley of Lewisville, TX; nine grandchildren, Kristin Biniek, Brent Biniek, Connor Riley, Britney (Tom) Stanley, Shannon (Adam) Flores, Emily Schulz, Rebecca (Ben) Berger, Sean Riley, and Philip Schulz; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Stanley and Mazey Flores; nephew Bob Rutledge; and brother-in-law Fred “Loren” Riley.

Dorothy attended Illinois State Normal University, obtaining her bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1943. She taught English, Latin, and Spanish at Roanoke-Benson High School for 25 years, and later volunteered in schools in Texas and Illinois for 30 years. Dorothy was a member of the Woodford County and Illinois Retired Teachers Associations, Delta Kappa Gamma teaching society, and the Metamora Women’s Club. She and her husband traveled extensively.
