Dorothy R. Dillard, 93, passed away Friday morning, June 7, 2013, in Buchanan, Michigan. She lived in Three Oaks, Michigan for 27 years before moving to Buchanan Meadows in 2012.
Dorothy was born February 27, 1920 in Buchanan to Robert and Ruth (Swank) Sheeley. She grew up in Galien and graduated from Galien High School. When Dorothy was only 20 years old, she moved to the Bay Area in Northern California where she worked, married Kenneth D. Sechler, and raised her family. During her career, she owned a business, was a real estate investor, and was also employed at State Farm Insurance Company. In retirement, Dorothy moved to Three Oaks to be closer to her family. She was a good cook and enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, and craft projects. Dorothy and her husband, Bob Dillard donated land to their community which became known as Dillard Park in Three Oaks. Dorothy and Bob enjoyed antiques and operated the Heartworks Antique Store in Three Oaks until 2006.
She is survived by her son Curtis D. Sechler and his wife Joyce of Lake Forest, IL ; grandchildren Michelle Duncan and Kenneth D. Sechler III; six great-grandchildren Brittainy, Courtney, Bethany, Curtis, Jeremy and Kevin; great-great-grandchild, Lliam; daughter-in-law, Wilma Sechler of Frederick, MD and sister Lois Kool of St. Petersburg, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, son Kenneth D. Sechler Jr., sisters Carmen Anderson, Rosalie Zavor and Shirley DeFreez and brothers, Rex Sheeley, Harold Sheeley, and Zane Sheeley.
