Dorothy “Punn” Leister Leese, 90, of Kernersville, NC, formerly of Westminster, died peacefully at home at Arbor Ridge on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.
Born October 11, 1924 in Finksburg, she was the daughter of the late Claude A. and Hattie Spencer Leister. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Leese, who predeceased her in 2000.
Dorothy enlisted in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp during WWII and trained at Franklin Square Hospital. She worked as a Registered Nurse in industrial and medical surgical nursing for many years and 11 years in Psychiatric Nursing at Springfield State Hospital. She retired in 1988 as a Psychiatric RN Consultant for Maryland Department of Mental Hygiene. She was very proud to have participated in the Nurses’ Health Study of Channing Laboratory at Harvard Medical School for 35 years.
Punn was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster. She and her husband travelled extensively throughout the United States and around the world prior to his death. She loved the Baltimore Orioles and playing Bridge, Scrabble, crossword puzzles and Bingo.
She is survived by her children, Chris Shepard and husband, Tom, of Kernersville, NC, Robert “Bud” Leese and his wife, Claudia, of Amherst, NH, and Gail Leese and her husband, Tom Wokasch, of Gig Harbor, WA; a sister, Arlene “Eeney” Logue and her husband, Bill, of Westminster; and grandchildren, Amanda Leese of Chicago, IL, Nelson Leese of Cleveland, OH and Liane Valentin and her husband, Melvin, of Kernersville, NC; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Mildred Keefer, Margaret Martin, Ruth Feeser and Shirley Bond.
