Dorothy Nell “Dottie” Barber, age 92, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015, at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House in Tallahassee. Dottie was a dedicated and loving caregiver to her husband of 29 years, Clyde J. Barber, who was severely injured in an automobile accident just prior to their marriage in 1964. She worked hard all of her life.

In the early years, Dottie and Clyde ran Lakeshore Motor Hotel on the shores of Lake Ella and were subsequently the original owner and operator of Dottie’s Bar & Grill on Jackson Bluff Road until 1979. After her husband’s death, she took a part time job as a file clerk at HRS Personnel Office and was later a receptionist at Work Force Plus where she worked until she retired. Dottie was born February 26, 1923 in Columbus, MS to John Q. and Gladys M. Jones.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by one sister, Reba M. Keller of Lawson, MO, her daughter, Frances “Sissy” Strickland of Tallahassee, her son Leroy “Buddy” Rickman (Elaine) of Jacksonville, three granddaughters: Marsha Rickman of Tallahassee, Shanna West (Chad) and Heather Pyle (Terry) of Oklahoma; one grandson, Jade Barber (Ashley) of Tallahassee, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and loving friends.
