Dorothy Marie Marx, age 89, passed away peacefully March 14, 2022, in Thornton, Colorado. She was born June 4, 1932, in Fremont, IA. She grew up living on her aunt’s farm and being a majorette in her high school band which she dearly loved. After high school, her family moved to Denver where she met and married Leo Glen Marx (deceased).

In 1954, Dorothy, her husband, and their 23-month-old daughter moved to a new housing development known as “Thornton”. Over the years she became a champion for all things Thornton; she strongly believed that Thornton was the place to live and involved herself in building community and civic pride wherever she went. She was a lifetime member of the Thornton Women’s club and helped with projects such as the city directory, a cookbook, and building and donating the facility now known as the Community Building at the City in the city of Thornton.

Dorothy was very recognizable. Everybody, it seemed, knew Mrs. Marx and her smile and warmth. She could make just about anyone smile. But while she had that reputation, the city council knew – when she had something on her mind for improving the city, they weren’t getting off easy.

She loved volunteering, especially working with her fellow seniors at Senior Friends (H2U) and Thornton Senior Center. Her favorite thing was playing bingo and having lunch at the Active Adult Center when she rode the van. She also enjoyed collecting teapots, watching old movies and mysteries, playing various card games, and traveling.

Dorothy is survived by her children Linda, Lee Ann (Dennis), Bret (Peggy), and René (Dan); her 3 grandchildren Christopher, Daniel, and Ashley, and 4 great-grandchildren.
