Dorothy Mae Thurmond Eley
Dorothy Mae Thurmond Eley of White Plains, GA, died early Monday morning, February 24, 2014 at Greene Point Health and Rehabilitation. She was 94. A lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born on March 6, 1919 to the late William Jefferson Thurmond, Sr. and Emma Valentine O’Kelley Thurmond. She graduated from Madison High School and on December 25, 1939 married J. W. (J. Buck) Eley. For many years she was a homemaker and worked beside her husband on their cotton farm and later dairy farm.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband J. W. Eley in May of 1995; her beloved brothers, Flonnie Thurmond, Burnie Thurmond, Robin Thurmond, Duard Thurmond, Willard (Jeff) Thurmond, W. J. Thurmond, Larmatine Thurmond and an infant sister. She is survived by her devoted family, Larry Eley (Nancy), Jamie Eley (Dollie), Phil Eley (Jan) and Keith Eley (Cheryl) all of White Plains, GA; grandchildren, Jeff Eley (Amy), Mark Eley (Tawny), Amy Eley Simpson (Charles), Beth Eley Clifton (Chad), Ginger Eley, Brittany Leach, Matthew Eley, Kelly Eley Wall (Russell) and Jessye Eley; great grandchildren, Lauren Eley, Lea Eley, Lindsey Eley, Kaeley Clifton, and Henry Eley; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
